Ford Vice President of Vehicle Hardware Engineering Charles Poon acknowledged that the company overestimated what AI could accomplish on its own. Veteran engineers are now involved in mandatory reviews that examine designs and processes before production begins.&nbsp;

The results appear to be encouraging. Ford recently ranked as the top mainstream automotive brand in the 2026 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, marking its strongest performance in the survey in more than a decade. Executives also reported lower warranty and recall-related costs, suggesting that the combination of human expertise and AI tools is producing better outcomes than automation alone.&nbsp;

Ford's experience reflects a broader debate taking place across industries as companies rush to adopt AI. The company says users should make sure they are running the latest version of the app and watch for a notification when the feature becomes available in their country.

Once access is enabled, reserving a username takes only a few steps:

According to WhatsApp, usernames can be between three and 35 characters long. Users can later change or remove their username if they decide they want something different. 
The company is also reserving certain names associated with celebrities, public figures, and major organizations to help prevent impersonation. Businesses, creators, and organizations will have the option to claim the same username they already use on Instagram or Facebook to maintain consistency across platforms.

For many users, the update addresses one of WhatsApp's biggest privacy complaints. Until now, starting a conversation usually meant sharing a phone number, whether with a new acquaintance, someone from a community group, or a participant in a large group chat. That's a bigger issue than it may initially seem, as phone numbers are often linked to banking apps, two-factor authentication, work contacts, delivery services, social media accounts, and a person's real-world identity. With usernames, users will be able to connect without exposing that information to every new contact.

The announcement came from <a href="https://www.ebu.ch/news/2026/06/cbc-radio-canada-becomes-a-full-member-of-the-european-broadcasting-union" target="_blank">CBC/Radio-Canada</a>, the national public broadcaster, after it secured full membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organization that runs Eurovision. CBC had been an associate EBU member since 1950, but a vote at the union's 96th General Assembly in Prague cleared the way for Canada to actually compete rather than just watch from the sidelines.&nbsp;

Under the EBU's revised rules, membership from outside Europe is now open to broadcasters from countries whose public media system lines up with Council of Europe standards and that hold formal observer status with the Council. Canada was judged to meet both requirements.&nbsp;

Canada will compete in the semifinals when the contest kicks off in Bulgaria next year. Details on how the country will pick its artist and song have not been released yet. CBC says a selection process will be announced later this year.

Marie-Philippe Bouchard, president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, framed the move as a long-awaited payoff for Canadian fans who have followed the contest for years without a horse in the race. She said the country's involvement will let Canadian talent be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world, while giving viewers at home the novelty of finally rooting for their own act.&nbsp;

Fittingly, the news broke on Canada Day.

Canada has never had a team in the contest, but it has left fingerprints on it. The same pattern is emerging across many professions where technology can complete part of the work but cannot fully own the outcome.

AI appears to be following a similar path, though the pace of change may be faster than previous technological shifts.

Evidence of that transformation is already visible. Marketers use AI to draft content and analyze data. Software developers use it to accelerate coding tasks. Customer service teams rely on AI to surface information more quickly. Lawyers, accountants, researchers, and healthcare professionals are experimenting with AI-assisted workflows that reduce time spent on repetitive work. In each case, the technology often increases productivity without eliminating the need for skilled professionals.

The roles that appear most resistant to automation are those that depend heavily on human interaction, trust, judgment, leadership, and adaptability. Healthcare providers, skilled tradespeople, managers, negotiators, consultants, and many creative professionals continue to perform work that requires understanding people, interpreting complex situations, and making decisions with real-world consequences. These are areas where AI remains a supporting tool rather than a substitute.

That does not mean workers are immune to disruption. Many jobs will change as AI capabilities improve, and some roles will likely shrink or disappear over time. Yet the evidence so far suggests that the future of work is less about mass replacement and more about redistribution. Workers who understand how to use AI effectively may become more productive, while businesses that combine technology with human expertise may gain the greatest advantage.

The growing number of employers reassessing AI-driven layoffs highlights a reality that is becoming harder to ignore. Artificial intelligence can generate answers, automate workflows, and complete tasks at remarkable speed. What it cannot consistently provide is the experience, judgment, accountability, and adaptability that people bring to their work. For companies rushing to reduce headcount in the name of automation, that distinction is proving far more important than many expected.

Throughout the years, the platform became a key piece of internet pop culture, producing easy to insert gifs of the newest memes and stories. But this is coming to an end today. Google announced earlier this year that it would discontinue the Tenor API as part of what it described as an effort to &ldquo;focus resources&rdquo; on its core products. New API sign-ups and integrations were no longer accepted in January 2026. As of June 30, all API agreements and existing integrations have been fully decommissioned, and any requests sent to the API now return errors.

This does not mean Tenor itself is disappearing. The Tenor website remains online with its searchable GIF library intact, and Google continues to use the service across its own products, including Gboard and Google Messages. What has changed is that outside companies can no longer access Tenor's GIF database through the API that once powered their GIF pickers. For users, the biggest impact will likely be the GIFs they can access inside their favorite apps. Different GIF providers maintain different libraries, search systems, and moderation policies.&nbsp;

Several major platforms have already completed migrations to alternative providers. Some users noticed the transition when their recently used GIF history disappeared, and search results changed. Discord began testing replacements months before the shutdown, evaluating both Giphy and Klipy as alternatives. Many users now report seeing Klipy integrated into the platform. WhatsApp has also been working on a transition to Klipy, while Bluesky appears to be making a similar move.

An interesting twist is that one of Tenor's founders, Frank Nawabi, is now involved with Klipy, one of the companies benefiting from the transition. Klipy recently raised $3.8 million in funding, with Google among its investors.

The affected vehicles include certain 2021 Ford F-150 trucks, 2020&ndash;2021 Ford Explorer SUVs, 2018&ndash;2021 Ford Expedition SUVs, 2020&ndash;2021 Lincoln Aviator SUVs, and 2018&ndash;2021 Lincoln Navigator SUVs. Ford said the vehicles were identified through transmission plant and vehicle assembly records, so owners should check by VIN rather than model year alone.

The largest affected group is the Ford Explorer, with 313,147 vehicles included. The recall also covers:]

<ul>
	<li>246,202 Ford Expedition SUVs</li>
	<li>82,570 Ford F-150 trucks</li>
	<li>59,079 Lincoln Navigator SUVs</li>
	<li>40,197 Lincoln Aviator SUVs</li>
</ul>

Ford estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect.

<h2 id="how-was-the-problem-discovered-">How Was the Problem Discovered?</h2>

Ford&rsquo;s investigation began after NHTSA contacted the company in April 2026 about owner reports involving vehicles moving after being shifted to Park, failing to shift into Park, getting stuck in Park, or moving with the brake applied. Ford later reviewed warranty claims, diagnostic data, and field reports tied to possible park system damage.

As of May 20, 2026, Ford had identified hundreds of reports in North America potentially related to vehicle movement in Park. The company said it was aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries, two of which were emotional injury claims.

Ford said affected vehicles may show a wrench light on the instrument panel. In some cases, the electronic parking brake may apply automatically if the vehicle&rsquo;s transmission range sensor does not reach the Park position when Park is selected. Still, Ford found that rollaway detection may not always work after the vehicle has been powered down for a period of time because the powertrain control module may not be awake.

<h2 id="what-is-ford-doing-to-fix-the-issue-">What Is Ford Doing to Fix the Issue?</h2>

Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software, inspect the transmission for park system damage, and replace damaged transmission components when needed. The repair will be free for owners. The updated software is designed to stop the transmission from commanding shifts that could cause temporary parking pawl engagement while the vehicle is moving.

Dealer notification was expected on June 26, 2026. Interim owner letters are scheduled to be mailed from August 3 to August 7, 2026, while remedy letters are expected to be sent in phases beginning in April 2027. VINs were expected to be searchable starting June 26, 2026.

Owners should use the parking brake every time they park until the recall repair is completed, especially on slopes or driveways. They should also check their VIN through Ford, Lincoln, a local dealer, or <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls" target="_blank">NHTSA&rsquo;s recall lookup tool </a>to confirm whether their vehicle is included. If the vehicle shows a warning light, has trouble staying in Park, or moves after being shifted into Park, owners should contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer as soon as possible.
