Endurance vs. SilverRock

SilverRock and Endurance are two companies that sell vehicle service contracts (VSCs). SilverRock is a smaller and newer provider whose parent company owns auto dealerships, and you can buy their coverage at those affiliated dealers or directly from them. How does it compare to Endurance’s higher-profile offerings? Read on to find out!

Both Endurance and SilverRock are direct providers of their VSCs, which means they administer their own contracts and handle claims in-house. They also both sell plans in California, although Endurance may accept higher-mileage vehicles and has greater nationwide coverage.

SilverRock provides a limited warranty with car purchases at their affiliated dealerships, which include Carvana, and that gives you immediate coverage. They sell one optional inclusionary plan with limited component coverage over a pre-set period of time if your manufacturer’s warranty no longer covers those parts. You will pay a smaller deductible if you use an in-network repair shop with their plan.

Conversely, Endurance sells five plans with variable term periods and limits, including inclusionary and exclusionary policies as well as a plan that complements your manufacturer’s powertrain warranty to give you comprehensive protection. With their plans, you also get a trial year of such benefits as collision discounts, key fob replacements, and up to $1000 towards a replacement car after a total loss. They also offer optional specialized packages to expand parts coverage further. Of the two, only Endurance offers sample contracts online, although SilverRock does list covered components on their website.

Both VSC providers do not advertise pricing online, and you must contact either for a personalized quote. We were not able to find sufficient information on SilverRock plan’s monthly costs, but we understand that the total contract prices fall within the same range as Endurance plans. You can pay between $70 and $125 a month for an Endurance policy. And while costs may climb depending on the coverage and optional add-ons you opt for, you might be able to find various Endurance discounts online.

When it comes to the Better Business Bureau, Endurance is not accredited but has a healthy BBB customer review score. In contrast, SilverRock is BBB-accredited but has a low review score. Both providers reply promptly and courteously to complaints, which surround claim denials, frustration with customer service and claims, and slow refund processes. Outside of the BBB, we were not able to find many customer reviews for SilverRock. Conversely, there is a lot of online feedback about Endurance from customers, most of which is quite positive. Customers praised their helpful customer service, broad features and parts coverage, and mostly pleasant claims experience.

Your choice between the two auto warranty providers depends on your circumstances. If you’re buying a car from Carvana, for example, you will already have their limited warranty. That should not only cover you from day one, but also help you decide what your coverage needs are. But what if the limited warranty’s term runs out or you never bought your car from a SilverRock-affiliated dealer? Is SilverRock's restricted protection plan enough, or do you want more coverage and options? If you want the latter, Endurance might suit your needs best, and do so at similar costs and with better service nationwide.
