Are you worried about unexpected car repair costs of all sorts popping up for you? If your vehicle's factory warranty has run out, or if you're buying a used car and wondering how to best protect it, then maybe you need to look into comprehensive extended warranty coverage. Ox Car Care's Platinum Plan offers premium coverage, covering a high number of components that could break down, and is designed to give you peace of mind while on the road. But does this plan meet your coverage and budget requirements, or should you look somewhere else?

Ox Car Care advertises three plan levels on their website: Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Their Gold plan is their "powertrain plus" coverage, and Diamond offers their best coverage, with Platinum sitting in the middle. While they tout it as comprehensive, there are some parts and components that are not included for protection within a Platinum contract, although benefits like roadside assistance and tire road hazard reimbursement are standard for all plans. Ox Car Care does not specifically provide costs on their site, so you must submit a request for a quote, which they will tailor to your car's characteristics and your unique situation, requirements, and location.
In this post, we'll discuss the pros and cons of the Platinum plan, its expected cost, and what it exactly covers. We'll also provide a comparison with other providers in the market and help you understand if it might fit your requirements. So whether you're looking for comprehensive coverage or just curious about what Ox Car Care has to offer, keep reading to find out more about their Platinum Plan.
What Does the Platinum Plan Cover?
Ox Car Care promotes the Platinum plan as being comprehensive, but it sits below the Diamond plan for its extent of coverage and will not cover some of the higher technology parts that plan will. However, if you look through the sample contract they supply you on their website, you will find a long list of parts categories and components for which they do offer protection. This plan covers engines (gas/diesel and rotary), transmissions, transfer cases, drive axles, seals and gaskets, A/C, steering, brakes, fuel systems, cooling systems, and base electrical components. If those parts are important to you, make sure to look through the contract to ensure the necessary sub-components are also included.
As with the provider's other plans, you may add two optional packages to your Platinum coverage, after paying a surcharge. These are the Ride Share option, which allows you to use your car as an Uber or Lyft, and the Modification option, which covers you after altering vehicle height, emissions controls, fuel efficiency, and so on. Keep in mind that other providers may not cover you at all under these circumstances, so we think they are notable perks.
As with the Diamond and Gold plans, there are other benefits included with this policy. It offers limited reimbursement for tires damaged by road hazards as well as 24-hour roadside assistance and towing. There are some limitations to those perks, such as being limited to three roadside services per year and a reimbursement of up to $150 per tire if, and only if, it is damaged by a "road hazard." Aside from towing, roadside assistance perks include emergency fluid delivery, flat tire assistance, battery jump-starts, lockout service, and an information hotline for non-emergency situations. Their deductibles can vary between $100-$250 per repair.
What is not covered?
Compared to the Diamond plan, there are some parts categories not covered within this plan. You will not be covered for some components unique to a hybrid vehicle, such as the suspension, high-tech electrical components, and anti-lock brakes. As with many service contracts, manufacturer's defects are also excluded from coverage, especially if a recall has been issued, but in such a case, they may reimburse you the difference in deductible from your manufacturer and for towing and rental car expenses. They also will not cover sales tax, as well as pre-existing conditions, accidents, misuse, or intentional tampering, among other exclusions found in the contract. They also will not cover you if you use the vehicle for "commercial" uses or if you have a "branded title" car.
It's important to realize, too, that you will only be covered for a maximum of $7,500.00 or the "cash value" of your vehicle with the Platinum plan, whichever is less. To that effect, Ox Car Care might stipulate that used or cheaper replacement parts be utilized within repairs, including for engines, transmissions, differential assemblies, transfer cases, and other components. Make sure to ask a lot of questions and read carefully through the contract they give you before signing so that you know everything you may or may not be covered for.
Could You Benefit From the Platinum Plan?
Ox Car Care does not clarify what types of car owners might benefit from this policy, despite the fact that the Diamond plan is advertised to owners of newer automobiles. It might be the best coverage for you if you own a moderate- to high-mileage but fairly modern compact, sedan, SUV, or truck. If you own a hybrid car or worry about your high-tech electrical components failing, you would be advised to upgrade to Diamond. Otherwise, Ox Car Care maintains that Platinum is a full coverage policy for parts that "have a higher likelihood of needing repairs" and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
It may be useful to note that while this Ox Car Care plan protects a large number of vehicle types and conditions for major repairs and replacements, the monthly payments may be higher compared to some other warranty plans. Some customers have found the claim process lengthy or complicated, although we do note that the warranty provider responds promptly and pays attention to posted client issues. We believe it is important to carefully review the terms and conditions before purchasing so that you are aware of all inclusions and exclusions and can make the most of your coverage and get the best bang for your buck.
How Does Platinum Compare?
Ox Car Care's Platinum plan offers similar coverage for many older, or less high-tech, cars as the Diamond plan does. Both plans are often confused for each other online because of these similarities. You will find that monthly premium costs may overlap, depending on the quote, because of the variety of criteria that the provider's salespeople take into account. Through our research of customer reviews online, we have found that you may pay from $120 to just over $200 a month for Platinum, depending on the term length, installment plan, and your vehicle's make and model, age, mileage, and usage levels. We also understand that your location and financial situation, as well as whether you are of a protected class, may play a part in getting you a better deal. Please note that we do not have concrete data on the lengths of their installment plans, or, in other words, how long you would pay these monthly installments.
Other extended auto warranty providers will offer similar plans, though there are differences in the number of components covered, general provisions and exclusions, and the quoted costs. The Superior plan at Endurance includes all the part categories that Platinum does but adds front and rear suspension coverage, as well as a much longer list of covered electrical components like voltage regulators, power window switches, cruise control modules, and so on. The costs for this plan lie in the same general range as Ox Car Care's plan, as Endurance's quotes could vary due to the same factors, and their deductibles range from $0 to $500 for each repair. Endurance lower plans start at $69 a month, but for Superior, you can expect to pay upwards of $150 to $180 an installment after a down-payment, for a total of between $3,200 and $3,800 for the coverage term.
You can expect similar costs from CARCHEX's and CarShield's own Platinum plans, but like the Endurance plan, they have a good amount of extra components covered. In their case, you can also expect to be covered for high-tech electronics as well as emissions and audio center components.
Full of Features, but Does It Suit You?
Ox Car Care's Platinum Plan might offer comprehensive coverage for your vehicle if you own an older, less technologically advanced car or if your car's high-tech components are not as of concern to you as the engine, transmission, brakes, steering, and the like. If so, with benefits such as unlimited mileage, roadside assistance, tire road hazard reimbursement, and rental car reimbursement, you will have peace of mind knowing that your car is protected against any unexpected repairs or breakdowns. If more component coverage is necessary, Ox Car Care also offers a Diamond plan, which is more suitable for a newer or hybrid car but may cost you more.
Of course, it's important to note that the Platinum Plan may not be suitable for everyone, as it may come with a higher cost compared to other plans. And although the total value of the plan may be in the same range as plans from other providers, similar policies from top providers like Endurance or CarShield will cover a higher number of components. However, you may be able to get a quote that fits your budget best from Ox Car Care and decide to go with them, especially if you like their benefits and have heard good things about their claims and customer service processes. And if you're still unsure about which provider is best for you, do your own comparison research and read our reviews, then check out the different companies' websites to learn more about their plans. Always take your time to consider all factors important to you and make an informed decision.
