Jeep owners are being warned to park certain Wrangler and Gladiator models outside after a major fire-risk recall involving more than 1 million vehicles in the United States.

FCA US, part of Stellantis, has recalled 1,076,999 model-year 2021 to 2025 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles because of a possible electrical issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect may cause combustible materials to overheat and catch fire, even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is turned off.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The affected vehicles include 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Jeep Gladiator pickups. The recall covers nearly 1.08 million vehicles in the U.S., with more vehicles affected in Canada, Mexico, and other global markets.

The issue centers on the wiring connected to the electric hydraulic power steering pump. If the electrical connection has high resistance or becomes loose, heat can build up. In rare cases, that heat can melt nearby materials and increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

NHTSA said the recall followed an investigation opened after multiple fire reports. The agency said it is aware of 51 fires and one injury that are likely related to this issue.

The warning is serious because the fire risk may exist even when the Jeep is not being driven. For that reason, owners are being told to park outside and away from homes, garages, buildings, and other vehicles until their Jeep has been repaired.

What Is Jeep Doing to Fix the Problem?

FCA US plans to notify owners by first-class mail. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 9, 2026. Affected VINs are expected to become searchable through NHTSA’s recall lookup tool starting June 11, 2026.

The company is still working to make the remedy available, with a solution expected no later than July. Dealers will inspect the affected parts and repair or replace the wiring harness and/or electric hydraulic power steering pump as needed. The repair will be completed free of charge.

What Owners Should Do Now?

Owners should not wait for a letter if they are concerned. They can check their VIN on NHTSA or through Mopar’s recall website once the recall data is available. They can also call FCA customer service at 800-853-1403 or NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.

Until the fix is complete, the safest step is to park the vehicle outdoors and away from anything that could catch fire. Owners should also watch for warning signs such as a “Service Power Steering” message, unusual steering behavior, or any burning smell near the engine area.
