After years of rumors, the remake of Ocarina of Time is coming!
Updated On: June 11, 2026

Nintendo has confirmed that one of the most requested remakes in gaming history is finally on the way. During a Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9, the company revealed that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with a release planned for later this year.

The announcement closed the showcase with a short teaser trailer. The trailer offered narration describing the kingdom and the Kokiri people, panning across a tapestry before revealing a sleeping Link as his hand glows with the symbol of the Triforce, though no combat or exploration footage was shown.

A specific date has not been set. Nintendo confirmed only that the game will launch this year rather than in 2027, and many expect it to land near the holiday season. The company said additional details would follow in the coming months.

The Zelda franchise turned 40 earlier this year, and a Legend of Zelda film is planned to release in May 2027.  Few games carry expectations quite like this one. Originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1998, Ocarina of Time is frequently cited among the greatest video games ever made and holds a Metacritic score of 99, the highest on the site's all-time list.

The title previously received a well-received reworking on the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, which added improved controls and touchscreen support and went on to sell millions of copies.
The broader climate may work in the project's favor. Recent years have seen a string of successful revivals of beloved older titles across the industry, suggesting that developers have grown more confident in how to honor classic material while modernizing it for new hardware.
