Is OnePlus Closing? What We Know So Far
Reports this week suggested OnePlus could be shutting down, following rumors that its parent company, Oppo, was pulling the plug. The news was quickly called into question, with many arguing the story was based on an unverified article that jumped to conclusions and read more like an “AI hallucination” than confirmed news.
The story spread like wildfire after a publication released an investigative-style report that pointed to supposed office closures, reduced regional teams, and canceled products. Notably, no official statement from OnePlus or Oppo was included at the time of publication.
That raised immediate questions, especially since OnePlus had recently announced and launched new hardware in key markets. For many users, the idea that the company was being quietly shut down did not align with its recent public activity.
The rumor gained even more traction as it overlapped with earlier leaks. Leaker Yogesh Brar had previously suggested that the Open 2 was canceled and that the OnePlus 15s was unlikely to launch. While those rumors may still be true, canceled releases do not signal a company-wide shutdown.
Shortly after the story spread, OnePlus responded, though only in part. OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu published a statement on X, calling the shutdown reports false and unverified, confirming that OnePlus operations in India are continuing as normal. He also pointed to recent product launches in the region, directly contradicting the idea of an immediate collapse.
That response, however, left an open question. The statement addressed India specifically, but did not clarify the situation for OnePlus operations in North America, Europe, or other markets mentioned in the original report.
As of now, OnePlus is still active. The company recently launched the OnePlus 15R in India, featuring a 165Hz display, a 7,400mAh battery, 80W fast charging, and OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16. Phones are shipping, updates remain on schedule, and warranties are still supported.
