Honda Recall Alert: Engine Stall Risk in 295K Vehicles

Honda has announced a recall of nearly 295,000 vehicles in the United States due to a software issue that could lead to engine stalling or loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects specific models of Honda and Acura vehicles, including:
- 2023-2025 Honda Pilot SUVs
- 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S SUVs
- 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S sedans
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that the issue stems from improperly programmed software in the fuel injection electronic control units (FI-ECUs). This defect can cause sudden changes in throttle response, illuminating the check engine light and potentially causing the engine to lose drive power, hesitate, or stall. As of January 16, 2025, Honda has not reported any injuries or accidents related to this issue.
Honda discovered the software problem through telematics data monitoring and has initiated a recall to address the issue. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to take their cars to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer for a software update to correct the FI-ECU programming. This service will be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners. Honda plans to notify owners by mail starting in mid-March 2025.

Honda received over 10,000 warranty claims related to this issue but reported no injuries or deaths.
In December 2024, Honda recalled nearly 206,000 SUVs in the U.S. because the fuel filler neck could separate from the filler pipe in a crash, allowing gasoline to leak and increasing the risk of a fire. The recall covered certain 2023 and 2024 Passports and some 2023 through 2025 Pilots. Honda reported one warranty claim related to this problem but no injuries or fires.
