Frontier Communications is shaking up the internet service market by introducing their new 7-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) fiber internet plan across several states. This includes big states like California, Texas, Florida, and New York, among others. This latest offering, priced at $299.99 per month, is now available to customers within Frontier’s 29-state fiber network, positioning them as one of the fastest and most widely accessible internet providers in the United States.

The 7-gig plan is a significant upgrade from Frontier's previous offerings, which maxed out at 5 Gbps. Customers who opt for this plan will enjoy symmetrical speeds, meaning that both upload and download speeds reach up to 7 Gbps. This makes the plan especially appealing to users with high-bandwidth demands, such as those engaged in gaming, streaming, or managing multiple smart home devices.

Frontier is enhancing the value of their 7-gig plan by including a Wi-Fi 7 router, which supports the latest Wi-Fi technology, providing improved wireless coverage and speed throughout a home. In addition to the high speeds, the plan comes with unlimited monthly data, free professional installation, and access to their My Premium Tech Pro service, which offers ongoing tech support for three years.

Despite the impressive speeds, Frontier’s 7-gig plan costs more than some competitors. For example, Google Fiber offers an 8 Gbps plan for $150 per month, albeit in limited markets. Optimum also provides an 8-gig plan at a slightly lower cost of $280 per month in specific areas. Nonetheless, Frontier’s broad availability across 29 states gives them a significant competitive edge, as they are able to reach a larger customer base than these more regionally-focused providers.

In announcing this plan, Frontier emphasized that the demand for faster internet is growing rapidly among their customers. According to the company, more than 60% of new subscribers opt for speeds of 1 Gbps or higher, and many purchase additional services requiring substantial bandwidth. By offering a 7-gig plan, Frontier is meeting current needs and anticipating future demands as digital consumption continues to rise. The launch of this plan places Frontier among the few providers pushing the boundaries of internet speed. They join other companies like Ziply Fiber, which recently introduced a 10-gig plan, and TDS Telecom.

What this means for you

If you’re considering upgrading to Frontier’s new 7-gig plan, evaluating whether you truly need such high speeds is crucial. While having the fastest internet on the block might sound appealing, most households don’t require 7 Gbps for common activities like browsing the web, streaming video, or making online calls. This plan is tailored for power users with multiple high-bandwidth devices or frequently engage in data-intensive tasks like 4K streaming, large file uploads, or professional-grade video conferencing.
