Ford Recalls More Than 110,000 Mustang Vehicles Over Two Safety Defects

Ford has issued a major recall affecting more than 110,000 Mustang vehicles across the United States after identifying two separate defects that could increase the risk of crashes.
The recalls, announced through the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affect certain Ford Mustang, Mustang GTD, and Mustang Mach-E models. The issues involve malfunctioning windshield wipers in some vehicles and a drivetrain component that could fail in others. Ford says repairs will be provided free of charge through authorized dealerships.

What Caused the Recall?
The larger of the two recalls affects 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles. According to regulators, the windshield wipers may only operate at their highest speed in certain cold-weather conditions. At the same time, the windshield washer system could stop functioning properly. If drivers cannot clear rain, snow, or road debris from the windshield, visibility may be reduced, increasing the likelihood of a crash.
The second recall involves 42,784 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles. In these vehicles, a rear differential pinion shaft may fracture. If that happens, the vehicle could lose drive power while in motion. In some situations, a parked vehicle could also move unexpectedly if the parking brake is not applied, creating an additional safety hazard. Combined, the two recalls cover 110,626 vehicles in the United States.
Affected Models
Ford's recall includes:
- Certain 2024-2026 Ford Mustang models
- Certain 2025-2026 Ford Mustang GTD models
- Certain Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles affected by the rear differential issue
Owners should not assume their vehicle is affected based solely on the model year. The exact population depends on production dates and vehicle identification numbers (VINs). Ford and NHTSA will provide VIN-specific information to affected owners.
What Is Ford Doing to Fix the Problem?
Ford is working with dealerships to repair the affected vehicles at no cost to customers.
For the wiper-related recall, dealers will inspect and correct the windshield wiper and washer system issue. For the Mustang Mach-E recall, dealers will replace or repair the affected rear differential components as needed.
Ford has not reported any known injuries related to the windshield wiper defect, according to recall documents cited by industry reports.
What Should Owners Do Now?
Owners of affected vehicles should:
- Watch for an official recall notice from Ford
- Check their VIN through Ford's recall page or the NHTSA recall database
- Schedule a dealership appointment once notified
- Have recall repairs completed as soon as possible
Drivers of affected Mustang models should pay particular attention to any unusual windshield wiper behavior, while Mustang Mach-E owners should be alert for drivetrain warnings or unexpected changes in vehicle operation.
