Ram Recalls 1.27 Million Trucks Over Seat Belt Defect
Stellantis is recalling more than 1.27 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks in the United States after discovering that some rear seat belt buckle anchors may not have been properly attached during production.
The voluntary safety recall covers certain Ram 1500 trucks from the 2019 through 2026 model years. The issue affects the second-row center seat and the second-row seat behind the driver. An improperly secured anchor may reduce the seat belt’s ability to protect a passenger during a crash, raising the risk of injury.
The recall is one of Ram’s largest recent safety campaigns. Along with the estimated 1,271,294 vehicles affected in the United States, Stellantis is recalling around 156,138 trucks in Canada and 74,084 in Mexico.

What Caused the Recall?
The issue stems from the way certain rear seat belt buckle anchors were attached to the truck’s body structure during assembly.
Some owners reported finding that a buckle was not attached to the floor. In a collision, a loose or unsecured anchor could prevent the restraint system from working as designed. The problem does not affect the driver or front passenger seat belts.
Stellantis has identified one injury that may be connected to the defect. The company has not reported any related deaths.
The announcement applies specifically to Ram 1500 pickups. It does not indicate that every truck from these model years is affected. Owners must check their vehicle identification number, or VIN, to confirm whether their truck is part of the campaign.
How Will Ram Address the Problem?
Stellantis will begin mailing recall notices to affected owners in August 2026. Dealers will inspect the second-row center and driver-side buckle anchors. When technicians find an incorrectly attached anchor, they will secure it properly to the vehicle’s body structure.
Both the inspection and any required repair will be completed free of charge.
The company has not issued a stop-drive order, meaning owners may continue using their trucks. Ram advises passengers not to sit in the affected second-row center or driver-side positions until the vehicle has been inspected and repaired.
What Should Ram 1500 Owners Do?
Owners should enter their VIN on the official Mopar recall website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall database. Recall information may take time to appear as vehicle records are added to the system.
Drivers who receive a notice should contact an authorized Ram dealer and arrange an inspection as soon as possible. Owners with questions may also contact FCA US customer care at 1-800-853-1403.
