Ford Recalls 274K SUVs Over Brake Defect

Ford Motor Company has announced a significant safety recall affecting nearly 274,000 SUVs in the United States due to a brake system defect that could increase the risk of crashes.
Content
Affected Vehicles & Issue
The recall encompasses approximately 223,315 Ford Expedition and 50,474 Lincoln Navigator SUVs from model years 2022 through 2024. The issue stems from a manufacturing defect where the front brake lines may come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This contact can lead to brake fluid leaks, potentially resulting in a loss of brake function and increased stopping distances, thereby elevating the risk of accidents.
Discovery & Investigation
Ford began investigating the problem in February 2025 after noticing a rise in brake-related warranty claims. The company identified that during assembly at the Kentucky Truck Plant, misrouted radiator hoses could cause the front brake line to bend and rub against the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This repeated contact may weaken the brake line over time, leading to leaks.
As of mid-April, Ford had received 45 warranty reports, two field reports, and two customer complaints related to front brake line leaks. However, the company stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue.
Repair & Notification Plan
Ford has initiated a recall campaign (number 25S47) to address the defect. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, replace the front brake lines and/or the air cleaner outlet pipe at no cost to the owners. Dealer notifications began on May 14, 2025, and owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed between May 26 and May 30, 2025.
Owner Guidance
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to monitor for signs of brake fluid leaks, such as increased brake pedal travel or the illumination of the red brake warning indicator. If these symptoms are observed, owners should contact their local Ford or Lincoln dealership promptly.
To check if a vehicle is included in the recall, owners can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website or Ford's recall page and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). For additional assistance, Ford's customer service can be reached at (866) 436-7332.
Recent Ford Recalls
This recall adds to a series of recent safety-related actions by Ford. In April 2025, the company recalled over 123,000 vehicles, including certain Expedition SUVs, F-150 trucks, and Lincoln Navigators equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines, due to a separate brake fluid leak issue.
Ford's proactive approach in addressing these safety concerns underscores its commitment to vehicle safety and customer satisfaction.
For more information on this recall and to stay updated on any future actions, owners are encouraged to regularly check official communications from Ford and the NHTSA.
