Apple Music Unlocks Live Mixing for Subscribers

Published On: March 27, 2025
Apple Music has launched DJ with Apple Music, a new feature that allows subscribers to stream and mix tracks directly from its catalog of over 100 million songs using leading DJ software and hardware. The integration supports platforms like Serato, AlphaTheta’s Rekordbox, Algoriddim’s djay Pro, and InMusic’s Engine DJ, which powers Denon DJ and Numark gear. This will allow DJs to build, rehearse, and perform sets without needing to download tracks or manage external storage.
Apple has also introduced a dedicated DJ with Apple Music section within the Music app, featuring curated playlists and platform-specific content. Partner platforms like Serato, Rane, Numark, and Algoriddim have their own curated sections to help users find mix-ready tracks and sample playlists. This curated experience is designed to help DJs at all levels find inspiration and quickly test ideas.
The move builds on Apple’s earlier support for DJ culture, including the launch of DJ Mixes in 2021 and Apple Music Club, a live DJ radio station introduced in 2024. Now, Apple is bringing that support full circle by making it easier for DJs not just to listen to mixes but to create them directly within the tools they already use.
Industry leaders see the integration as a milestone. Karim Morsy, CEO of Algoriddim, said the update “transforms the way DJs discover and play their favorite music.” Yoshinori Kataoka, CEO of AlphaTheta, called it “a significant step forward in making DJing more accessible.” Morgan Donoghue of InMusic noted that DJs can now “build and refine their sets with ease,” using Apple Music’s deep catalog and curated content.
While some popular DJ gear like Pioneer’s CDJ line isn’t yet supported, the feature is already available on a wide range of devices across macOS, iOS, Windows, and even platforms like Vision Pro and Meta Quest. The service is included in the regular Apple Music subscription, making it more affordable than alternatives like TIDAL’s DJ tier.
By combining music discovery, curation, and performance tools in one ecosystem, DJ with Apple Music lowers the barrier for new DJs and adds convenience for seasoned pros. It’s a strategic move that strengthens Apple’s position in the DJ space and responds to a growing demand for flexible, cloud-based performance options.
