Payment Methods
To pay for your Site5 plan, they use the basic payment options. This means they rely on credit cards or PayPal for their customers to pay for their plans.
Ease of Use
Using Site5 is a piece of cake; they said it “We don’t want to make web hosting any more complicated than it already is.” Meaning, they tried to simplify web hosting by having an easy-to-use control panel. That doesn’t mean advanced users shouldn’t use it. It simply allows you to do anything without any complications. Isn’t that great?
After the sign-up process, you’ll receive a detailed email with everything you need to know about web hosting.
Customer Support
In case you face any problem, there’s a customer support team available 24/7 for help. They can answer any question and help in site migration, which is only available Monday to Friday. But we’re not here to talk about site migration; we’ll get into that later. We’re here to tell you that customer support is available via e-mail and live chat 24/7. There’s also phone support. Sadly, they’re only available Monday to Friday from 10 am till 6 pm EST.
If you don’t want to contact the agents, you can refer to their knowledge base or Q&A section on their website. Give it a try; you might find what you’re looking for and get support from the Site5 community.
Site5 Security
SSL Certificate
All plans on Site5 come with a secure SSL certificate, which is a great feature to have a secure website for visitors. Especially if you’re creating an e-commerce store where customers have to enter some sensitive information like their credit card details, honestly, it’ll save you money because you won’t have to purchase it alone, which is great and not available among many competitors.
Spam Assassin Protection
You can use your email without worrying about any attacks or hacks due to the spam filter option to protect you from viruses.
Site Backup
All plans come with nightly backups to make sure your website is safe. Files are saved on the server in case you need to restore anything. You can also manually back up your website if you want.
Site5 Load Times, Reliability, and Features
Uptime & Speed
Like other web hosts, Site 5 has a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and if the site’s uptime is below that, you’ll get a refund. However, they’re pretty confident it won’t, so I’m sure it’s better than you’d expect it to be. Other than that, there have only been a few complaints about Site 5’s reliability, which is another good indicator when considering there are multiple data centers.
Features
Site5 offers several features with its plans. Let’ take a look:
- Unlimited storage & bandwidth
- Free backup
- 99.9% uptime guarantee
- 1-click App Installer
- Free website migration
- MySQL supported many coding languages
- Malware protection
There are different control panels based on the hosting plan you choose. These include cPanel/WHM, Backstage, SiteAdmin, and MultiAdmin. The multi-admin feature is available in the host Pro plan, where you can assign multiple hosts to the same account. There’s also a Softaculous one-click script installer, which simplifies the process of downloading apps.
For Advanced Users
There are multiple developer-friendly features with Site5's plans, as follows:
- Multiple Programming Language Support: PHP 5 & 7, Ruby on Rails, Optional Python 2 & 3, Perl 5.10, and Server Side Includes (SSI).
- MySQL Database
- phpMyAdmin
- FTP & SFTP
- SSH Access
Check out their plans for more developer-friendly features.
Server Location
Site5 used to have 19 different server locations. However, you can only select the central US during the sign-up process, which is a bit confusing.
E-Commerce Features
For large and small businesses, Site5 offers popular shopping cart scripts:
- CubeCart
- OS Commerce
- Zen Cart
All you need to do is download them with their 1-click app installer. Then, if you want, you can purchase your own dedicated IP for your customers to have multiple ways to access your website.
The Downside
Another downside of using Site5 is there’s no SSD, which means they run their server off old hard drives, which can slow your website.
Final Verdict
All in all, Site5 is another web hosting service that comes with unlimited bandwidth and storage, a domain name, free backup, and an SSL certificate to keep your website safe. While all of these are great features and they come with even better customer service. Still, we think other hosting services owned by Endurance International Group like HostGator and Bluehost provide a better value for money.
