Subnautica 2 Sets Early Access Date With New Events & Rewards

Subnautica 2 devs announced that it will enter Early Access on May 14, 2026, at 08:00 PDT. The game will launch at $29.99, with a model that gives players access to all updates through full release. That means no separate purchases later as new content is added.
Before the launch, the studio is hosting a pre-launch showcase on May 9. The event will run for about two hours and will stream across YouTube, Twitch, and Bilibili. It will include the first full gameplay trailer, along with live demos and conversations with the development team. This is the first time players will see how the game actually plays, rather than just cinematic previews.
Events, giveaways, and Twitch drops
The showcase also includes Twitch Drops on their channel. Players who watch at least 20 minutes of the livestream on Twitch can earn an in-game Seamoth Statue. The reward will not appear immediately, since it can only be claimed after Early Access begins. Players will have until June 30, 2026, to redeem it in-game after linking their Twitch account.

Alongside the showcase, the developers are running a set of community-focused events. One of them is the Alterra recruitment event, which invites players to apply for fictional roles within the game’s universe. Participants complete a short aptitude test and receive a recommended role before submitting their application. If the community reaches 100,000 total applications, a Lost River Poster blueprint will be unlocked as a shared in-game reward.
They’re also hosting The Leviathan fan art contest, which asks participants to design their own version of the Deepwing Brooder Leviathan using an official template. Selected entries will receive rewards, and the top submission will be turned into an in-game poster. It is a direct way for players to influence the game’s visual world before release. The pre-launch showcase will also include a giveaway, with more details revealed during the livestream. The developers have confirmed a plushie giveaway tied to the event, along with additional announcements expected during the broadcast.
On the technical side, the studio has shared early system requirements through a visual guide. These recommendations are meant to help players prepare for Early Access, though the team has already confirmed that optimization will continue throughout development. Performance changes are expected as updates roll out, which is typical for games in this stage.
Minimum requirements currently include:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580
