Updated On: January 22, 2026

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the 2026 Oscar nominations, officially kicking off the final stretch of awards season and highlighting the films and performances everyone will be talking about.

Sinners made Oscar history this morning by picking up 16 nominations, the most ever for a single film. The 2026 Oscar nominees were announced on January 22 during a livestream hosted by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman. Sinners scored big across major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director for Ryan Coogler, and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, surpassing the previous record of 14 nominations held by Titanic, La La Land, and All About Eve. One Battle After Another followed with 13 nominations, while Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value each earned nine. Among the biggest surprises, Wicked: For Good was completely shut out after being shortlisted in 10 categories, and The Smashing Machine came away with just a single nomination for Makeup and Hairstyling.

The Oscars return on Sunday, March 15, 2026, live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, airing on ABC at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT and streaming on Hulu. Conan O’Brien is back as host for the second straight year following a well-received turn at the podium in 2025.

Below are the most closely watched races this year, along with early predictions on who’s best positioned to take home the win.
