Nike has officially unveiled the Mind 002, a new sneaker designed to engage the brain through sensory feedback in the feet. The shoe launches in early February and expands on the company’s experimental Mind platform, which blends footwear design with neuroscience concepts rather than traditional performance metrics.
According to Nike, the Mind 002 builds on the earlier Mind 001 mule and introduces a full lace-up silhouette meant for everyday wear. The company describes the line as its first footwear project grounded in sensory and neurological research, developed through its internal Sport Research Lab.
How the Mind Technology Works
At the core of the Mind 002 is a footbed system made up of 22 independent foam nodes. These nodes compress and rebound as the wearer walks, creating subtle pressure changes across the sole of the foot. Nike says this stimulation is designed to engage sensory pathways connected to the brain and increase bodily awareness.
The company explains that the technology was shaped through motion studies and sensory testing conducted by its Mind Science team. Rather than focusing on propulsion or energy return, the design prioritizes how the wearer perceives movement and contact with the ground. The sneaker is expected to retail for around $145 and will be available through Nike’s SNKRS platform and select retailers.
