Marvel Rivals is about to release season 2!

Published On: April 10, 2025

Marvel Rivals Season 2 officially launches on April 11, and it brings a ton of new content, starting with the long-anticipated arrival of Emma Frost. She joins the roster as the 38th playable hero and the 10th Vanguard. She arrives with two premium skins: X-Revolution and Blue Sapphire. Players who reach Gold rank this season can also unlock the exclusive Golden Diamond costume.

The upcoming season introduces a new Domination map set on Krakoa, the sentient island featured in recent X-Men comics. Hellfire Gala: Krakoa uses a three-point, best-of-three format and will be added to the Competitive rotation. Other maps, including Yggsgard and Tokyo 2099, are being retired from ranked mode but will still be available in Quick Match and Custom Games.

Ranked and competitive play updates

This season comes with major changes to ranked play. Everyone’s rank is being reset by nine divisions from where they ended Season 1.5. So, if you were Diamond I before, you’ll now start at Silver I. NetEase is also shifting the pick/ban phase to start earlier—now at Gold III instead of Diamond. New players must be at least level 15 to join Competitive unless they’ve already completed a ranked match. Perhaps the most notable change is how ranks are calculated: the game will now place more emphasis on individual performance, not just match outcomes. This gives skilled players more room to shine, even in tougher matchups.

Marvel Rivals is moving from a three-month seasonal cycle to a two-month one. On top of that, NetEase is committing to releasing one new hero every month. Director Guangyun Chen said the move is meant to bring more excitement to the roster and let fans see their favorite Marvel characters sooner rather than later.

The patch also fixes dozens of bugs across maps, heroes, and UI elements. Captain America’s shield now reflects projectiles more consistently. Team-up abilities have also been shuffled, with some new synergies added and others removed to make way for future combos.

What’s next for Marvel Rivals

With Emma Frost now live, Ultron is expected to arrive later in the mid-season 2.5 update. And if NetEase sticks to their monthly hero rollout plan, players could see as many as nine or ten new characters added before the year ends. That means more balance challenges, more team comps, and more Marvel mayhem. Season 2 sets a new pace for Marvel Rivals, and whether you’re grinding ranked matches or just showing off new skins, there’s plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
