The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a critical recall affecting certain Hankook Tire America Corp. products. The recall specifically targets the Kinergy GT tires, size 235/60R18H H436, which have been found to lack the essential tire identification number (TIN) that includes the 4-digit week and year code mark.
According to federal regulations, all tires must have a TIN to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, “Tire Identification & Recordkeeping.” The absence of this code not only contravenes these standards but also poses significant risks to drivers. Without the TIN, owners may find it challenging to determine if their tires are included in this or future recalls, potentially leading them to continue using defective tires.
