Gmail’s AI Tool Will Now Write Your Emails For You!
Published On: October 29, 2024
Google is expanding their AI-powered “Help Me Write” feature to Gmail on the web, allowing users to create and polish emails with just a few clicks. Previously available only on mobile, the tool now appears in the web version of Gmail whenever users open a blank draft, offering assistance with message composition or refinement. This update is part of Google’s broader rollout of AI tools designed to save users time and bring clarity to their communications.
With “Help Me Write,” users can quickly draft, edit, and refine their emails in a few simple steps. The tool is especially useful for those looking to formalize, elaborate, or even condense their messages. As a bonus, a new “Polish” shortcut, exclusive to Gmail drafts with over 12 words, provides additional options to refine writing. Desktop users can activate this feature with a simple click or by pressing “Ctrl+H,” making it easy to refine content for a more polished look. This shortcut is also rolling out to mobile, where it will replace the previous “Refine my draft” option, streamlining the editing process.
The “Help Me Write” and “Polish” tools are currently available to Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business, Enterprise, or Education add-ons, as well as subscribers to the Google One AI Premium plan. This gradual rollout, which began on October 28, 2024, is expected to be available to all eligible users within two weeks.
The mobile and web versions of these tools work similarly but offer different user experiences. On mobile, users swipe to activate the “Polish” option, and the app instantly provides a refined draft. They can then continue editing with options like “Formalize,” “Elaborate,” or “Shorten” for further customization. For desktop users, the interface includes a prompt to use “Help me write” whenever they open a blank email draft, ensuring seamless access to these AI-driven suggestions.
In addition to the AI-driven text refinements, these tools underscore Google’s commitment to making Gemini AI a central part of their services. For those with high communication demands, these updates simplify the email drafting process, eliminating the need for extensive rewrites and offering polished, contextually appropriate language in real-time.
