Ford F-150 Fuel Tank Recall Covers 223,472 Trucks
Ford is recalling 223,472 F-150 pickup trucks in the United States because their fuel tanks may not be properly secured. The defect could allow a tank to leak or detach while the truck is moving, creating fire and crash risks.
The recall covers certain F-150 trucks from the 2023 through 2027 model years. Owners will receive instructions to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a free inspection and, when needed, replacement fuel tank straps.

Why Are Ford F-150 Trucks Being Recalled?
The problem involves the front strap that holds the fuel tank against the truck’s frame. According to documents Ford submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the strap’s T-shaped ends may not have been positioned correctly inside slots in the frame rail during assembly.
If the strap is not seated properly, it may fail to secure the tank. The tank could begin leaking, fall from the vehicle, or create an obstruction for other motorists. Leaking gasoline near an ignition source could also start a fire.
The affected trucks were assembled between January 4, 2023, and August 27, 2026. Ford said camera systems designed to confirm correct fuel tank strap assembly were not in continuous use at F-150 assembly plants during that period.
Ford had identified 16 potentially related warranty claims worldwide when they filed the recall documents. The company said they were not aware of any crashes, fires, or injuries linked to the defect.
Which Ford Models Are Affected?
The recall applies only to certain Ford F-150 trucks from the following model years:
- 2023 Ford F-150
- 2024 Ford F-150
- 2025 Ford F-150
- 2026 Ford F-150
- 2027 Ford F-150
Not every F-150 produced during these model years is included. Owners should confirm their status using the vehicle identification number.
The NHTSA campaign number is 26V578000, while Ford identifies the recall as 26S69.
What Is Ford Doing About the Problem?
Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the fuel tank straps on affected trucks. Any strap found to be improperly installed will be replaced at no cost to the owner.
Ford expects to mail notification letters between September 21 and September 28, 2026. Owners do not have to wait for a letter to check whether their truck is included. They can enter their VIN through NHTSA’s recall search tool or Ford’s recall page.
What Should F-150 Owners Do?
Owners should schedule a dealer inspection once they confirm that their truck is part of the recall. They should also watch for signs of a loose tank, including a gasoline odor, visible fuel beneath the truck, or scraping and dragging sounds from underneath the vehicle.
